Duna TV starts broadcasts on THOR 5

(Oslo, Norway) Telenor Satellite today announced that Duna TV, a Hungarian public-service broadcaster, is set to start television and radio broadcasts on the THOR 5 satellite, located at one of Europe’s fastest growing hotspots – 1 degree West.

Telenor Satellite has signed an initial six-month service contract for the satellite delivery of Duna TV’s television programmes. These comprise standard-definition and high-definition TV channels Duna TV and Duna II Autonomia, and two public service radio stations.

Tests have already commenced on 1 degree West and services are expected to start regular transmissions on April 1, 2010.

“We are delighted to welcome Duna TV to the expanding line-up of channels carried at 1 degree West, said Cato Halsaa, Vice President and CEO of Telenor Satellite. “As one of the hotspot positions within Central and Eastern Europe, Duna TV will be well positioned to reach its target audience in Hungary as well as further afield within the region”.

Duna TV’s decision to move to 1 degree West further strengthens the orbital location, which is already home to the two most important pan-regional DTH operators within Central and Eastern Europe: Digi TV and – from later this year – UPC Direct.
